Pompeii Poster

Pompeii, circa 1900. Pompeii, a once-thriving Roman city located near modern Naples, Italy, is steeped in history and tragedy. Founded around the 6th century BCE, Pompeii flourished as a prosperous and culturally rich urban centre during the Roman Republic and Empire. However, its fate took a dramatic turn in 79 CE when Mount Vesuvius, a nearby volcano, erupted violently, burying the city and its inhabitants under a thick layer of ash and pumice. This catastrophic event froze Pompeii in time, preserving its streets, buildings, and even human remains remarkably well. Rediscovered in the 18th century, Pompeii has since become an invaluable archaeological site, offering an unparalleled glimpse into daily life in ancient Rome. Excavations have revealed stunning frescoes, intricate mosaics, well-preserved houses, public baths, theatres, and even food stalls, providing invaluable insights into Roman culture, architecture, and society. Today, Pompeii stands as a testament to the enduring power of nature and the resilience of human history. It continues to captivate visitors from around the world who come to explore its remarkably preserved ruins and to reflect on the tragedy that befell this once-vibrant city nearly two thousand years ago. Pompeii's historical significance extends beyond its archaeological treasures; it serves as a haunting reminder of the fragility of human existence and the forces of nature that can reshape the course of civilisation.

I originally ordered this print in a larger size but was not pleased with the clarity of it. When I contacted Zazzle, they responded really quickly and were very helpful. I was able to reorder the print in a smaller size and it was shipped to me within a couple of weeks. The print was packaged well to ensure there was no damage during transit (Eco friendly, too!), and I am really pleased with it. I am so grateful to the customer service team for the professional way they handled my order. I had this printed on matt finish card and I was really pleased with the quality. The colours were rich and the image sharp.
