This magnet features the Ponte Vecchio spanning Florence’s Arno River, its characteristic rows of historic shops projecting above the water. After a major flood destroyed the earlier crossing in 1333, the present bridge was erected in 1345 and became one of the city’s enduring medieval landmarks. Goldsmiths displaced earlier food trades in 1593, while Vasari’s elevated corridor has crossed above the shops since 1565.
