This postcard features a closer view of the Ponte Vecchio in Florence, emphasizing the old shopfronts and arches built directly above the Arno River. The current bridge was constructed in 1345 after the flood of 1333 swept away its predecessor, preserving a commercial role that reaches back through mediaeval Florence. Its shops became associated with goldsmiths from 1593, and the Vasari Corridor has passed across the upper level since 1565.
