Rabelo boats are traditional Portuguese cargo boats traditionally used to transport Port wine from the faraway vineyards to Vila Nova de Gaia. Various references to this boat prove its origins lie way back in the 10th century. These Rabelo boats were designed for sailing the turbulent waters of the River Douro as well as facing the transport of casks of wine in good conditions. Today they are used as tours for cruises. and offer tourists a different perspective of Porto.
