Henry Cabot Lodge (1890) by John Singer Sargent is a vintage Victorian Era fine art portrait painting. Henry Cabot Lodge (1850-1924) was a historian and a Republican Senator from Massachusetts. Lodge received his PhD in history from Harvard. Lodge was also a close friend and confidant of President Theodore Roosevelt. Lodge had the role (but not official title) of the first Senate Majority Leader. About the artist: John Singer Sargent (1856-1925) was the most successful portrait painter of his era. Sargent is usually not thought of as an Impressionism painter, but he sometimes used impressionistic techniques to great effect with his own version of the impressionist style.
