A popular Portuguese dessert originating in Belém, Lisbon (and occasionally referred to as a pastel de Belém) the traditional pastel de nata consists of a pastry shell, egg yolk-based custard filling, and optional cinnamon topping. In addition to being a staple at Portuguese establishments, today this type of tart can also found in bakeries and dessert shops around the world.
