About This Design

Portuguese cobblestone black and white waves magic mug

Portuguese cobblestone black and white waves magic mug

Portuguese cobblestone is one of the iconic hallmarks of Lisbon. The city has numerous pathways with this enchanting stone dance of black and white. This form of street art began in the historic Rua Nova dos Mercadores, back in 1498, under the royal charter of King Manuel I. The cobblestone masters once executed their craft with unmatched precision and the material's resilience only added to this captivating artistry's magic. Today, Portuguese cobblestone adorns many locations all over the world from New York to Brazil but Lisbon remains the ultimate stage to witness the brilliance of the old masters. So, when visiting the capital of Portugal we can look up to the beautiful buildings and monuments but also to the ground only to be surprised by the presence of sea animals, birds, ships, flowers, and patterns made of stone at our feet. Rossio Square stands as an emblematic showcase, with its iconic "waves" that were the inspiration for this illustration. This Portuguese waves cobblestone in black and white design looks modern and yet traditional. You can send/offer it to a Portuguese friend, a relative, a Portuguese American, someone of Portuguese descent, or someone who appreciates Portuguese traditions and culture. I invite you to try changing the background colour with the Zazzle Design tool so the waves can gain new colour while maintaining the shape and dark/light contrast. Pick your favourite colour. If you want to see what it looks like you can check the pink waves cobblestone products available.

The black cat in the window mug is magical. I didn’t know what a morphing mug was when I got it. When hot the cat appears and cold it looks like a plain black mug. .

Our art student kid wanted to get dad something special for Christmas and we thought a morphing mug! Once the Sencha tea leaves art (my husband's fav tea) was completed, we uploaded to Zazzle (easy), and positioned the design (easy). Then got the mug in just a few days! Because we chose the black cup morphing, we noticed that there's a strip of white by the handle. Ideally, we would have liked the entire cup black, but overall, we love it and so did my husband! Would buy again, but maybe use a different background color. Awesome! Our kid's design of Sencha tea leaves turned out fabulous!
