Posthumous Portrait of Ria Munk (1918) by Gustav Klimt is a vintage Victorian Era Symbolism fine art portrait painting. The young woman in the portrait is Maria Munk who committed suicide on December 28, 1911, after the writer Hanns Heinz Ewers called off their engagement. While working on this portrait Klimt himself died, leaving the piece unfinished. It's a beautiful example of his famous portrayals of women and one of his largest portraits. aka Frauenbildnis. About the artist: Gustav Klimt (1862-1918) was an Austrian Symbolist painter and one of the most prominent members of the Vienna Art Nouveau movement.
