Prayer for Unity Print
John 17, the so-called High Priestly Prayer of Jesus, played an important role in my conversion to Catholicism. Before Our Lord’s passion, he prayed for His disciples and for all those who would follow after Him due to their witness. He prayed that all His disciples be one as He and the Father are one.
If I am a follower of Christ, should I not do my part to fulfil this dying wish of my Lord?
Shortly after converting, I found this Latin prayer for Christian Unity in the Church’s Enchiridion Indulgentiarum (con. 11.2) and committed it to memory. I try to pray it at least once a day.
For this image, I juxtaposed the prayer with a detail from an icon of the Agony in the Garden. How much of Our Lord’s agony in His passion was caused by the sins that fractured the Body of Christ? What am I doing in reparation for those sins?
