Prisoners Exercising by Vincent van Gogh Mouse Pad

This painting by Vincent van Gogh is titled Prisoners Exercising, which is a little misleading. He painted it in 1890 during a short stay in an asylum where he was a patient, but felt as if he were a prisoner . It is ironic that the painting itself became a prisoner during the Russian revolution. It and others of an extensive art collection was seized from a prominent Russian and stashed away for decades. This and other very important works by Mattise and others were stumbled upon in a civic building there. After the dust settled from the stir, the entire find was finally returned to public eye and placed on exhibit. My mother made a dash. This one struck her, in part because she didn't know it existed, the straight lines and it is a self portrait.
