This set of portraits, depicting Queen Victoria at the beginning of her reign in 1837 and at her 50th anniversary on the throne, was created for the Golden Jubilee celebrations held in June 1887. Besides the twin portraits, the artwork, created for a newspaper supplement, also depicted two favourite residences of Queen Victoria, Balmoral Castle in Scotland and Windsor Castle.
