This oil painting is about Jesus lifting up Peter when Peter was sinking into the water because he was afraid of the wind. The follower on the boat doesn't look to feel safe with the lightening near the boat and big waves hitting at the boat whereas Peter holds onto our Lord Jesus for his life and finds the true rest. Whatever (money, people, career, etc.) we rely on in this world can't give the peace and the assurance that our Christ can provide to us.
