Historically, the most dangerous of all Rio´s favelas was Complexo do Alemão (the German Complex), which consisted of 4 interconnected favelas. Nobody dared entered until a police/army operation in 2010 occupied the favela. Now, although it still can´t be considered safe, its a popular tourist site, and even Prince Henry has paid it a visit!
