Robert Burns Some Pow'r the Giftie Gie Us Mug

Our mug for devotees of famous Scottish poet Robert Burns (1759-1796) features the verse from one of his most famous poems, 'To a Louse,' penned around 1785: "O wad some Pow'r the giftie gie us To see oursels as others see us It wad frae monie a blunder free us An' foolish notion What airs in dress an' gait wad lea'e us An' ev'n Devotion' The verse aimed at pricking Man's vanity is flanked on either side by a handsome cameo portrait of the bard based on a photomechanical print created between 1890 and 1900 by the Detroit Photographic Company. The painting shows the head and shoulders of Scotlands favourite son, the Ploughman Poet, in profile with a soft silhouette of trees in the background. The original image is courtesy of the Library of Congress Prints and Photographs Division, Washington DC and is shown against a soft yellow background, though you can change this to suit by using the customise button.
