Al Braden's photo of his son dropping from a rope swing into the Connecticut River is an emblem of the restored quality of the water. When the Connecticut River Watershed Council was founded in 1952, the river was known as The Best Landscaped Sewer in America. Much work remains to be done before the river is completely clean, but conditions have improved enormously.
