They symbolised the Houses of York and Lancaster in a conflict known as the Wars of the Roses. Rose hips, water and syrup are often used in culinary applications, and the rose has long represented love, both platonic and romantic (depending on colour and culture).

The coffee mug is beautifully painted in the two-tone hunter green, with the NZ Fantail bird depicted on both front and back and looks amazing.
