丸に下げ上 METAL TREE DECORATION

【まるにさげじょう】字紋／正しくは「丸のうち上文字紋」のテンが上向きになっているもの（あげ上）と、下線に平行しているもの（さげ上）をいうが、村上の「上」を紋章にした・・・「あげ上」を使う信濃本宗の村上氏が甲斐の武田信玄に敗れて軍団が解体した時に、紋も解体した。そうして多くは苗字と共に紋もカムフラージュされた。が、それでも秘紋として多くは「あげ上」を用いた。いっぽう関西では、瀬戸内の村上水軍が勢力をもち、大いに栄えていたから「さげ上」紋そのまま踏襲された。したがって、江戸時代でも関東の人は「あげ上」、関西の人は「さげ上」になっている。（丹羽基二著「家紋百話(上)」）／本図案は同書を参考に作図した。
