"Struggle between Tiger and Bull in a Tropical Forest" is what this painting is generally titled, but the bull is often referred to as a buffalo. Rousseau was one of those unfortunate artist who gained respect only posthumously. Looked down upon because of his "Naive" or "Primitive" style, recognition grew after his death and his art has been quite influential. A French post-impressionist painter, he is best known for paintings depicting jungle scenes.
