Rusty's Restaurant, Edwardsville, Illinois Coffee Mug

The original Rusty's Restaurant building at 1201 N. Main in Edwardsville, Illinois started out as the the oldest brick house in "Lowertown", as the first settlement along north Main Street was called. It was built in 1819 as a store and trading post for Robert and George Pogue, brothers, who came from Philadelphia early in Edwardsville's history to trade with the Indians. Edwardsville's first Post Office and Land Office were housed in the two rooms of the building. A remaining wall of that building was inside Rusty’s Restaurant. Opened in 1957 and closed in 2008, Rusty's was a fine dining establishment.
