S. S. Northwestern, Unalaska Island Announcement Postcard

The S. S. Northwestern was sunk by the Japanese during WWII when it was moored in the channel on the east end of Bunker Hill in Dutch Harbour, Alaska. In the 1990's it was moved to the shallows in the south end of Captain's Bay and designated a historical site. The ship remains half submerged with only its bow pointing upward out of the water to this day. During the Campaign of the Aleutians the S. S. Northwestern served as auxillary housing for the civilian construction workers who came out to Dutch Harbour.
