Sago Palm Fronds Tie

This photo was taken on my wife's coconut plantation in northern Sulawesi, Indonesia. These may have been sago palm. Can you imagine eating a tree? If you ever eat something made with sago flour that is exactly what you do. A sago palm is a type of palm that grows beside water. When it gets old enough it is cut down and the soft inside is scraped out and dried to make a flour. In the tropics sago is used to make cookies and bread. In Irian Jaya is one of the main sources of starch. There is a lot more where this came from. Visit my gallery.
