Married to Louis IV of Thuringia, she used her position to aid the poor and sick, even distributing food and clothing herself. After her husband's death, she embraced a life of poverty, joining the Third Order of Saint Francis. Elizabeth's devotion to the marginalised and her ascetic lifestyle earned her widespread admiration. Canonised in 1235, she remains a revered figure in Catholicism, symbolising selflessness and generosity.
