Saint Finbarre's Cathedral Riverside Print

Saint Fin Barre's Cathedral is one of Cork City's iconic landmarks. It sits atop a promontory on the south channel of the River Lee and overlooks the South Mall and Grand Parade. The Cathedral is the fourth structure to inhabit the site as previous buildings were demolished. Originally it is said that Saint Fion Barra had established monastery buildings on here that were destroyed during the Norman invasion. The current structure is a Gothic Revival style building which is strongly influenced by Romanesque architecture in the bold massing of the shapes in its design. It was designed by architect William Burges and construction was completed in 1870. This image was created in 2023 by local architect Paul Lee.
