Saint Jerome Poster

This work represents Peter Paul Rubens’s painting of Saint Jerome, housed in the Gemäldegalerie Alte Meister in Dresden. The image is also known through the Galeriewerk Lücke 126, a series of copper engravings reproducing important artworks from the Dresden collection. The engraving faithfully captures Rubens’s Baroque style and the saint’s intense spirituality. Saint Jerome is traditionally portrayed as a scholar and ascetic, often shown with a lion, symbolising the legend of his taming of a lion by removing a thorn from its paw.
