This is a reproduction of "St, Michael" of about 1663 by the Neapolitan Luca Giordano. This version of the tale from Revelation 12: 7-9 is noteable by the high colour of the archangel, the powerful thrust of his spear making contact with his opponent, and the agony of that opponent. Giordano is influenced by the similar paintings of Reni and Raphael. The dimensions of this masterpiece are 147 cm by 198 cm. This masterpiece is in the Gemaldegalerie in the Kaiser Friedrich Museums, Berlin.
