Honour the brave men of the heroic Saint Patrick's Battalion, who fought for faith and freedom against tyranny. The men of the San Patricio Battalion are remembered by generations of Mexicans to this day as heroes who fought bravely against an unjust and thinly veiled US war of aggression. St. Patrick’s Battalion, a unit of the Mexican Army, was composed mainly of Irish Catholic immigrants who deserted the U.S. Army and fled to Mexico during the war, which lasted from 1846-48. The San Patricios, as they were called, were fierce fighters and were instrumental in some of the toughest battles during the war.
