Savannah Georgia State Port Historic Postcard

Vintage postcard illustrated by the Tichnor Brothers in the 1930s-40s, of "Georgia State Port, Savannah Ga". Holding as the fourth largest port in the USA, and has a history as far back as 1733, when General James E. Oglethorpe and 114 crew landed on the Yamacraw Bluff and named the city, Savannah. The shipping industry all around Savannah, GA has a vast history, one important noteable one, is that a young teacher by the name of Eli Whitney, invents the cotton gin. At Mulberry Grove Plantation, on a bluff above the Savannah River, the cotton gin forever changes the agricultural landscape in the South. Currently the port is in the nearby city of Garden City, GA, and has moved a record 4.5 million twenty-foot equivalent container units in the year of 2019. It has enlarged this area of storage warehouses exponentially in current years, brining in many businesses to the area.
