Scotland’s Guthrie Castle–Guthrie Clan Fun Coaster

Scotland’s Guthrie Castle–Guthrie Clan Fun Coaster

So, the clan is gathering at your place? Treat them with YOUR clan's Scottish Castle and tartan. Guthrie Castle was the property of the Scottish clan by the same name from the 1400s until it was sold in 1984. The name “Guthrie” is prominent in Angus, less than 20 miles northeast of Dundee as the castle, clan and village all carry it. The Guthrie family descends from Robert the Bruce through the marriage of Alexander Guthrie, 2nd of Guthrie, and Margaret Lyon of Glamis. The structure began as a tower house in the 15th century when Scotland’s Treasurer and Lord Justice-General, Sir David Guthrie, had it built. Later family members added a house and kept expanding and renovating it until the death of Colonel Ivan Guthrie in 1983, when it was sold to Daniel S. Pena Sr., an American businessman. After a couple of decades, the house and its extensive walled gardens were offered to the public as a venue for weddings and other functions. The castle was hit with scandal in 2017 as it was alleged the wedding planner absconded with the deposits of 39 couples who had scheduled their events at Guthrie. The owner repaid the money lost, and the wedding planner was jailed. Guthrie Castle has once again become a private residence, closed to the public. (Information for these paragraphs was gleaned from online sources, including the castle and clan’s own websites and a number of Scottish news agencies.) The Guthrie clan's family tartan is used as a background and is under Crown Copyright, being registered with The Scottish Register of Tartans.

Beyond expectations, the photo was perfectly reproduced on the stone and the stone texture made it something special. A quality product. As a photographer, I am very aware of print quality, and this product clearly met my high expectations.

I have received many compliments on these coasters and they have withheld very well with extreme heat from a mug and the condensation from a glass without ruining any of my wood surfaces. The print actually turned out exactly like the photo.
