Scottish Armstrong Clan Tartan & Castle Tote

The ferocious Armstrong Clan of the Anglo-Scottish Border is associated with two family properties dating from the early 1500s - Mangerton and Gilnockie in Dumfries and Galloway of southwest Scotland. Both have fallen to ruins with only Gilnockie Tower remaining,and that because of a 1978 renovation. Gilnockie was the home of a famous outlaw Border Reiver Johnnie Armstrong. The image here is a painting "Gilnockie Tower in 1530, Dumfriesshire," by Henry Hetherington Emmerson (1831-1895). On this design, the blue, green and red Armstrong tartan plaid, under Crown Copyright and used courtesy of The Scottish Register of Tartans, forms the background for an oval photo of the Emmerson painting. A deep blue band frames the oval and was selected to closely coordinate with the blue in the plaid. In tiny print at the bottom is identification info for the photo -- keep or remove it as you select the options.
