    This design features the national flag of Scotland, also known as St Andrew's Cross or simply the Saltire. It dates back at least to the 16th century and probably earlier. Scotland is currently part of the United Kingdom, but it was once an independent state and there is a strong movement for independence again today, led by the Scottish National Party among others. Mainland Scotland has a 96-mile border with England to the southeast, but Scotland also includes more than 790 islands.
