Sea at Satta in Suruga Province by Ando Hiroshige Tie
Sea at Satta in Suruga Province (1859) by artist: Andō Hiroshige is a vintage Japanese fine art wood block maritime painting. Asian art featuring birds in the sunny sky with ocean waves crashing over rocks near the shore and Mount Fuji in the distance in the Suruga Province, Japan. This seascape print is one in the series 'Thirty-six views of Mount Fuji' (Fuji sanjūrokkei).
About the artist:
Utagawa Hiroshige (歌川広重) (aka Andō) (1797-1858) was a Japanese ukiyo-e artist, one of the last great artists in that tradition. He was a member of the Utagawa school which comprised dozens of artists, and stood at the forefront of 19th century woodblock prints. Hiroshige is especially noted for using unusual vantage points, seasonal allusions, and striking colours. He adapted Western principles of perspective and receding space to his own works in order to achieve a sense of realistic depth.
