When patients are chronically ill, they don't ever feel good. But they have a "baseline" group of symptoms that they learn to function with. Not get used to them, but only function with.
I refer to this "daily group of symptoms" as baseline.
When symptoms get worse, they are "below baseline" and when they have less symptoms or more manageable symptoms they are "above baseline."
So a "better than baseline day" is having a better then average day.
