Senegal Parrot (Poicephalus senegalus senegalus). In Africa, their most Northern reach is shared between 2 countries. In the Republic of Mali, they fly as far as the administrative Regions of Mopti, and Tombouctou. Bordering Mali's geometrically delineated Western borders, Senegal Parrots have almost parallel North and Northwest African territorial claims, in the Islamic Republic of Mauritania. Here, their range is limited to the most Southern and Southwest administrative Regions. The colorful Parrots live in approximately 97% of the Republic of Senegal, all of the Republic of the Gambia, all of Guinea-Bissau, roughly 75% of the Republic of Guinea, all of Burkina Faso. Their expansion continues East, to the Republic of the Niger, in the 5 most South Central and Southwest administrative Regions. In the Republic of Cameroon, their populations are reserved for the administrative Region of Far North Cameroon. Directly East from here, in the neighboring Republic of Chad, Senegal Parrots have enclaves in the lower Southwest, and an isolated population in the lower Southeast. They have another separate group in the Republic of Sierra Leone, within North West Province. More than a thousand kilometers or miles from here, beyond Northwest Africa's shores in the North Atlantic Ocean, a unique residency of these birds is firmly ensconced on Isla de Lobos. This exclusive location, set in the archipelago of the Kingdom of Spain Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands, is the maritime outpost of Senegal Parrots. Their stay is permanent; but their ancestors arrived here as caged, pet birds. Enough of them escaped to seek The Good Life, and saw no reason to change. Why would they? This very attractive bird represents 1 of 3 subspecies allied to the taxa, Senegal Parrot (Poicephalus senegalus).
