Shakespere Clipper sailing ship 1861 Ronald Francis MacDonald was a seaman who served on the SS Liguria (UK) during World War II. The wreckage of a passenger steamship that sank in the 19th century after a collision in San Francisco Bay was found. Francis J. McDonald was admired for his tenacity at the yard of McDonald's Philadelphia Ship Repair Co. in 1922. The period of clipper ships lasted from the early 1840s to the early 1890s. At the 'crest of the clipper wave' year of 1852, there were 200 clippers rounding Cape Horn. Up to 400 clipper ships were built, between 1840s to the early 1890 The only intact survivor is Cutty Sark, which was preserved as a museum ship in 1954 at Greenwich.
