Shirt: Alice in Wonderland - Caterpillar T-Shirt
This image is from John Tenniel's original illustration for Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll. It depicts a hookah-smoking caterpillar giving advice to Alice and was made in 1865.~ I've hand-coloured the original black and white illustration.
"The small symbol in the lower left is composed of Tenniel's initials, which was how he signed most of his work for the book. The partially obscured word in the lower left-centre is the last name of Edward Dalziel, the engraver of the piece.
