Solar Cycle 25 Active Sun Key Ring

Our sun has an activity cycle of 11 years, alternating between periods of calm activity and raging solar storms. During the peak years, radio transmissions go long distances, aurora displays are more frequent, and electromagnetic disruption to satellites and power grids may occur. We are in solar cycle 25, which will peak in the year 2025. The internal magnetic activity of the Sun will increase along with an increase in sunspots. This particular cycle is notable because the solar activity will peak at about the same time that we experience a total solar eclipse in North America in April, 2024. The near solar maximum should produce a view of the Sun’s corona that will be amazing to astronomers and amateur observers.
