More of an institution than a speed shop; Blair's is was THE go-to shop for hardcore Southern California rodders and racers. It's been there over 60 years under just two owners - Don Blair and Phil Lukens (who worked for Don and has owned it for at least 40 years). Every service from top-notch engine machining to full race-car fabrication is available. Many famous drag cars came out of there and they have probably put more straight axles under cars than anyone anywhere! It was also a fertile environment for fostering hot rod talent. Just a few alums include Eric Vaughn, Pete Eastwood, and Pete Chapouris.Don Blair died September 29th in Southern California just one day shy of his 90th birthday.We wish Don’s friends, family, and industry colleagues the very best. Stories about getting your “start” at Blair’s Speed Shop are frequent, but unfortunately they won’t be forever. As an iconic stop in hot rodding history, Blair’s Speed Shop will always be remembered. But for those who knew him, the man behind the counter who helped fuel hot rodding as we know it, Don will always be the true icon. Support your local speed shop!
