St. Barbara of Nicomedia (BK 001) & Chi Rho Tie
Alternating roundel of St. Barbara with the Chi Rho symbol. The Chi Rho, also known as the chrismon or sigla, is one of the oldest Christian symbols being antedated only by the cross and the fish. It is formed by the superimposition of the first two capital letters of the Greek word ΧΡΙΣΤΟΣ (Christos), the centre of the chi (Χ) being intersected by the vertical stroke of the rho (Ρ). + Image Credit (BK 001): Antique image of St. Barbara of Nicomedia from a late 19th-early 20th century devotional print in chromolithography, originally published by B. Kühlen, Mönchengladbach, Germany, from the designer’s private collection of religious ephemera. + Feast: December 4
