St Michael statue - Castel Sant'Angelo top, Rome Jigsaw Puzzle

This jigsaw puzzle features the bronze Archangel Michael crowning Castel Sant’Angelo in Rome, shown close-up as he sheathes his sword above the fortress. The castle’s name recalls a medieval legend that Pope Gregory the Great saw Michael above Hadrian’s former mausoleum in 590 as Rome’s plague subsided. The present summit figure was made by the Flemish sculptor Pieter Antoon Verschaffelt and installed in 1753, continuing the monument’s centuries-old angelic symbolism.
