This poster features a close-up of the bronze Archangel Michael statue on the summit of Castel Sant’Angelo, with green patina and raised sword. Castel Sant'Angelo began as the mausoleum of the Roman emperor Hadrian and was later transformed into a papal fortress and residence. The bridge, cylindrical castle and crowning bronze archangel form a layered landmark linking ancient, mediaeval and Baroque Rome.
