Years from now, when aliens have finally conquered this stupid planet and are running it sensibly, they shall look upon our puny science and scoff. Xlarphx, they shall snort, wriggling their feelers derisively, their standard model failed to include the Xylorogroph particle! At which point they shall laugh their flippers off as they cue up another infant on the spit. Come that morning, that gospel morning, slurf your daily aliquot of nutrient broth from a LabKitty Standard Model mug before heading off to the salt mines. Take comfort in the reminder that we came this close to figuring it all out. Half a Raptor fighter jet or a half month's worth of entitlements and maybe we could have found the Higgs boson or the Blerg quark or the Sampo or whatever the heck it is you physics nerdozoids are spending so much dang money on of late.
