The M101 galaxy, also known as the Pinwheel Galaxy, is a large face-on spiral galaxy located about 21 million light-years away in the constellation Ursa Major. It is estimated to contain at least a trillion stars, and its spiral arms are sprinkled with large regions of star-forming nebulas. These nebulas are areas of intense star formation within giant molecular hydrogen clouds. The galaxy is thought to be about twice the diameter of our own galaxy, the Milky Way.
