Starship Tapestry

Starship Tapestry

The flagship image in my studies; "Journey of Oppressed Inventor". "Starship" 2002-2003 Bic flick and Office Max blue ball point on cartridge paper. 14 months of almost daily work on this piece. This piece fuses cosmic exploration with ancestral navigation – think waka hourua riding the stars, koru unfolding into infinite voyages, Matariki guiding the way. Traditional Māori celestial wayfinding meets futuristic energy: stars as whetū, space as moana nui, the "starship" as a metaphorical waka blasting through time and whakapapa. Hand-drawn authenticity, no digital shortcuts – pure taonga for walls that tell stories of growth, journey, and new horizons. Eh bro, as someone who's been collecting Modern Māori since the early resurgence wave, this Starship piece hits different. It's a visual whakapapa of wayfinding: our tūpuna navigating by Matariki and Atutahi across Te Moana-nui-a-Kiwa, reimagined as a sleek, unfolding starship born from koru spirals. The central koru unfurls like a fern frond reaching for new stars, symbolising perpetual growth, rebirth, and the eternal voyage – that classic Māori duality of change and return to source. Hand-painted lines pulse with wairua; deep night-sky blacks and cosmic blues cradle glowing whetū clusters, while subtle koru tendrils weave through like gravitational pulls or ancestral ropes tethering past to future. No AI fluff here – every curve and star placement carries hours of real mark-making, that human touch you feel in the best contemporary Māori work. Hang this in your space and it's more than decor: it's a reminder that we're still voyagers, still guided by the same whetū our people used to find Aotearoa. Perfect for collectors chasing that rare blend of tradition and tomorrow – indigenous futurism done with soul. Size options make it versatile for whare or urban pad. Grab it before the next Matariki cycle; these human-crafted originals don't hang around. 1. - 14 or so months almost daily etching with bic flick/office max blue-purple roller ball on cartridge paper 2. - Meticulous focus done during the work; what am I doing right now. What is my next move, what are several moves ahead of this move. 3. - What is the concept; interactive-gravity conduit-motor geoid (as defined as flying vehicle) - space faring vessel-transport. 4. - Years of study in hard copy books; "water energies", "the antigravity handbook" - 3 book series, as lore/research into "UFO's" This description screams epic dedication – 14 months of near-daily ballpoint etching on cartridge paper, channeling that meticulous, chess-like focus on every stroke, all woven into this wild concept of an interactive-gravity conduit-motor geoid. It's like a blueprint for a space-faring waka, pulling from deep UFO lore and those hard-copy tomes on antigravity and water energies. As a collector who's chased rare pieces blending indigenous futurism with fringe science, this sounds like a taonga-level original: human-crafted, lore-infused, with that raw, obsessive energy that makes it stand out in a sea of digital fluff.

This tapestry came exactly how the picture looked. Everyone loved it! We put it behind our gift table at our no wrap shower display so it was center of attention. I got it dry cleaned just to make it look crisp as well! Printing was perfect and clear
