Stethoscopes, J. Ellwood Lee Company. Conshocken, PA, 1900. J. Ellwood Lee open his first factory in Conshocken in 1887, and by the start of the 20th century had nearly 600 employees. This medical supply company offered the latest in instruments such as this Denison model invented in 1885 by Charles Denison funneling sound to the ear through hard rubber earpieces, or the Knight's stethoscope which features a spring mechanism to keep the ear pieces separated.
