Used by modern-day naturalists to make all-natural dyes, it's more common names (Blanket Flower, Indian Blanket) are said to be a nod to the beautiful blankets crafted by Native Americans. Also symbolic of the region's rich Native American heritage, gaillardia was established as the official Oklahoma State Wildflower in 1986.
