Sun Goddess by Alphonse Mucha T-Shirt

This is a digitised version of an artwork by Art Nouveau illustrator and painter Alphonse [Alfons] Mucha (1860-1939). It shows the captain of a ship welcoming the sun. In this beautiful illustration, Mucha portrays the sun as the face of a beautiful woman - a goddess with a star on her forehead - reflecting light across the ocean to light the way. Her hair represents the rays of the sun. Mucha became one of the most sought out artists of the Art Nouveau, but interestingly, he protested the "Art Nouveau" label, for it was his view that art is eternal and not "new." He strongly preferred his paintings to his graphic art illustrations, but the world has always sought out his illustrations and his posters. His paintings say volumes about the spirit of people and are very important, but for the most part, they are yet to be discovered by the world.
