Sunflowers (1887) by Vincent van Gogh (Dutch, 1853–1890) is an intimate close-up still life depicting two sunflower heads set against a striking blue background. Unlike his later, more famous sunflower series in vases, this early study focuses on the raw structure, texture, and colour of the blossoms themselves.
