This is an early 16th century depiction of the assumption of the Virgin Mary. This very special piece was painted for the Franciscan Church in Venice and placed on the main altar. The Virgin Mary has her arms and eyes raised to the golden clouds as the Godhead prepares to welcome her. She is surrounded by cherubs. The assumption of the Virgin Mary is celebrated on August 15.
