The Cartwheel Galaxy | MIRI & NIRCam | JWST Poster
This image is a composite from both the Near-Infrared Instrument (NIRCam) and the Mid-Infrared Instrument (MIRI) of the JWST (James Webb Space Telescope) that shows a group of galaxies including the Cartwheel Galaxy, located approximately 500 million light-years away. This galaxy is made of an active outer ring full of star formations and a bright inner ring, both expanding like shockwaves from the centre. The bright red hues/glows between the rings, also seen in the spiral galaxy at the top left, are caused by glowing dust rich in hydrocarbons. Each individual blue dots are individual stars or pockets of star formation.
