The Christmas Spider Legend Ornament

The Legend of the Christmas Spider A long time ago in Germany, while a mother was busily preparing for Christmas, the spiders that usually stayed in the living room corner fled upstairs to the attic to escape her broom. From the attic, they could hear all the excitement from the living room as decorations were being made for the Christ Child's visit. Anxious to see the decorated tree, the spiders crept downstairs for a look. Oh, what a beautiful tree it was! The spiders were so excited, they scurried up the tree and out over the decorated branches. They were filled with happiness as they climbed all through the tree to see the glimmering beauty. But alas, by the time they were through exploring, the tree was completed covered in spider webs. When the Christ Child came, He smiled as He saw how happy the spiders were. However He knew how heartbroken the mother would be if she saw their beautiful tree covered in dusty spider webs. So He reached out and touched the webs, blessing them and turning them into strands of silver and gold. The tree sparkled and shimmered even more beautiful than before. Thus the custom to have a spider ornament among the decorations with tinsel of silver and gold on the Christmas tree was born.
